That’s A Wrap: Stars Come Out For ‘Lopez Tonight’ Series Finale

TBS may have given George Lopez a two-day notice that his late-night talk show was canceled Wednesday, but the funny man went out with a bang on Thursday. Whether that included a who’s who of celebrity names appearing on and off screen and Lopez joking about his future following the cancellation, Lopez was on fire Thursday night.

During the monologue at the opening of the show, the 50-year old joked that they were going to move the broadcast to Turkey. Shortly after, Creepy Little White Girl — a recurring character on the show since its inception in 2009 that often brings down the mood — reminded the host that his show was canceled.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom, however, as celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Slash, Arsenio Hall, Derek Fisher, Ron Artest, and Ashton Kutcher all made appearances. The latter showed up at the taping after the show went off the air, however, and didn’t appear on the actual television broadcast.

Highlights included Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria coming out with a glass of wine, toasting his real-life friend. Lopez, always trying to liven things up with his sense of humor joked, “Hey don’t spill wine on that couch. It’ll be in my house by Monday.”

Lopez also joked with Longoria that he wanted to have a guest-starring stint on Housewives by the end of the season because he was now out of work. They even took a jab at their personal lives by noting that they were both married and employed when they both met, but now they’re both divorced and out of work. As noted previously, ABC has canceled Desperate Housewives after the upcoming season ends in May.

Lopez closed the show saying that he wanted his show to be “inclusive” and “fun” and had the camera man pan over the audience to show the diversity, which Lopez has bragged about since the initial broadcast of the TBS show. He then thanked his good friend Sandra Bullock. “I want to thank Sandra Bullock, who 11 years ago took a chance on me…I want to thank my fans who followed me from standup to my sitcom and Lopez Tonight,” he said.

To wrap up the second season and series a clip montage airing the greatest moments of the show aired. Finally, the stars decided to have a salsa party dance and jammed to I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night, featuring Longoria, Fisher, Arest, Hall, and more.
