Tampa Woman Puts Her Son On The Street With Humiliating GPA Sign

Written by Michael Lambarde on Feb. 26, 2011

A Tampa woman was so disappointed with the grade point average of her 15-year-old son that she put him on the side of the road with an embarrassing sign around his neck saying “GPA 1.22 … honk if I need education.” Of course, the act didn’t come without criticism towards Ronda, the mother, because of the humiliated nature of the sign. Critics claim that the act would backfire and would not in any way encourage the child to improve.

Ronda does not believe that, however. She said that after trying anything possible to get her son, James Mond III, to improve his schoolwork, she believes that the move is the only way to get the child to improve. Though the bad grades were irritating enough for Ronda and her husband, she explained that she decided to take James through the ordeal after he showed disrespect during a school meeting the day earlier.

Since the incident, she maintains that she did what she did to give her son a better opportunity in his future. Ronda has since been reported to the Department of Children and Families.
