Former Academy Award winner Sofia Coppola has married her longtime beau and Phoenix frontman rocker, Thomas Mars. The two got married in the Italian hometown of her great-grandfather, Bernalda, on Saturday after announcing their engagement last May. The couple are parents to their younger children Romy, 4, and Cosima, 15 months.
The couple reportedly exchanged their vows in a palazzo that Coppola’s father, Francis Ford Coppola, will turn into a luxury boutique hotel. This is the second marriage for Coppola, who was previously married to director Spike Jonz from 1999-2003.
According to guests, Coppola was walked down the aisle by her father and was watched by around 80 guests. Coppola had her dress designed by Azzedine Alaia.
Leonardo Chiruzzi, who’s the mayor of Bernalda and also officiated the wedding, said that everything “went well” in an interview he conducted with The Associated Press. “It was simple, calm, in the garden,” he dished.
After the wedding, the guests were served a variety of cheeses as well as fish, salads, pork, and pastas. They also had wine which was provided from the family’s farm. Guests also had a simple vanilla cake with chantilly cream and decorated with white flowers. The cake was designed by a chef at the Magna Grecia hotel in Bernalda and was big enough to serve 100 people.
