According to reports made by Entertainment Weekly, the annual awards for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) will honor Ricky Martin and Kristin Chenoweth this year at the awards ceremony. According to GLAAD, they seek to promote the rights of gays and lesbians so every year members of the public that help promote their cause are honored. On that note Chenoweth will be receiving an award for her role in promoting the cause of lesbians and gays in the United States.

Monsters and Critics reports that Chenoweth has been recognized by GLAAD as having increasing understanding for the gay and lesbian community. She is also being honored for speaking against those that try to suppress the rights of the LGBT community in the United States. To recognize her contribution, she will be given the Vanguard Award during the ceremony in New York.

Ricky though will be receiving the Vito Russo Award for his help to the Latino gay and lesbian community in the United States. The award organizers say that his “coming out” has helped the community. This year’s awards will be held on the March 19th.
