Regis Philbin Extends ‘Live’ Stint, To Retire In November

“Live with Regis and Kelly” host Regis Philbin, who has been a vital part of the show for over two decades, has announced that he has extended his terms with the channel and the show for three more months than expected. He is most likely to leave to the show in November 2011. Initially, he was supposed to retire on August, after being on air on the same show for 28 years.

Many people are even more delighted with the news, as Regis Philbin, who is now 79 years, will turn 80 on August 25, and his birthday bash on the show would be witnessed by all. A source said that the legendary talk show host was asked to stay in the show for three more months because, the network wants to plan for some “Special Goodbye Show”, that would invite more intense television ratings. They were happy to find the veteran talk show host agreeing to that proposal. So far, ABC has not announced who could be the possible replacement of Regis Philbin, when he leaves the show. However, rumors have stirred that it could be Josh Duhamel, as the latter has been frequenting the show as a guest host, and also shares a good on-screen chemistry with co-host Kelly Ripa. The news has not been confirmed yet.

Even Josh Duhamel’s wife, Fergie tactfully avoided answering the media and only said that they should ask the question to the person concerned. Nevertheless, Regis Philbin is still going steady with the show, and is all set to invite Michelle Obama on Wednesday, who will visit the sets of “Live With Regis And Kelly” for the first time, to discuss about child obesity.
