14 years after her tragic car accident in Paris, Princess Diana would have been 50 years old yesterday (July 1st) had she lived. Not only that, but she would have witnessed her elder son’s highly viewed and talked about Royal Wedding earlier this year when William married Kate Middleton. In fact, to coincide with Princess Diana’s milestone birthday, Newsweek recently released a controversial cover with what a modern day Princess Di would look like today at age 50 with her daughter-in-law Kate. Many say that the cover was in poor taste, however.
On Friday, mourners paid tribute to the former Princess of Wales by appearing in London with cakes, cards and other gifts which they left at the gates of Kensington Palace, the place where Diana lived. Princess Diana had two sons with Prince Charles after the two got married in July of 1981, William and Harry. The couple would divorce one year before she died in a car accident in August of 1997 along with her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed that had the world mourning and still talking about her today, over a decade after her death.
However, back in the United States, as many also mourned the loss of Princess Diana, Conservative pundit Ann Coulter lashed out at Princess Di. When she was asked about what she thought about the recent Newsweek cover, Coulter blasted Diana, saying, “I find it a little baffling when Americans get this gaga-eyed over a princess, and particularly Lady Di, who was just this anorexic, bulimic narcissist.” The controversial figure added, “I think it would be an insult to, what’s her name? Kate Middleton”. She also noted that Middleton is “head and shoulders classier than Lady Di”.
