This past Friday, the Republican-majority New York State Senate voted to legalize gay marriage. Governor Andrew Cuomo would then go on to sign it into law later that night, meaning that gay marriage would officially be legalized 30 days after Friday. Instantly, the Internet went abuzz about marriage equality. One name in particular was the star of CBS’s hit series How I Met Your Mother, Neil Patrick Harris.
“I’d sure love to get married,” Harris tweeted on Twitter. “Please, NY Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today. My family would really appreciate it.” After it would pass later that night he tweeted, “It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this!! A historic night! David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We’ve been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date.”
Since then, various blogs have posted about Harris’ tweet suggesting that they were going to get married since the marriage equality bill passed, but he has since then posted another tweet earlier today saying that “just because [he and his partner David] will soon be able to marry in NY, doesn’t mean [they] are actively planning a wedding. Cart before horse.”
