Mike Starr, 44, was found dead this morning at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah home. Starr was best known for appearing on the reality series Celebrity Rehab and Sober House. He was also formerly a bassist for Alice in Chains before he decided to leave in 1993. When he talked to Dr. Drew, part of the reason he decided to join Celebrity Rehab was because of the death of Layne Staley, who was part of Alice in Chains and died at age of 34 because of an overdose.

Starr was arrested as early as last month, on February 18th, where he was found by police in posession of Opana and Xanax tablets. After the arrest, Dr. Drew said that his “addiction is so so profound that I always have to be prepared to expect anything”.

While an overdose is expected to be the cause of his death, it has yet to be determined, but will be revealed in about a month or so. Starr’s father reached out to TMZ today and said that the death is a “terrible shock and tragedy”.
