‘Mad Men’ Creator Matt Weiner Upset With AMC Over 2012 Return

Those who were waiting for the season premiere of AMC’s Mad Men later this year will have to wait for season 5 until this time in 2012. Matthew Weiner — the creator, executive producer and show runner for the series — is fighting with the network that he helped put on the map, thanks in part to his hit drama series. Weiner is appropriately outraged with the network, saying that waiting nearly a year from the time it was supposed to air this year is an outrage.

Apparently, the network wanted him to cut a few minutes of the hour-long drama in place for more advertising opportunities and cutting two cast members due to “financial reasons”. AMC released the statement yesterday: “AMC has officially authorised production of season five of Mad Men, triggering our option with Lionsgate. While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012.”
