Kirstie Alley, 60 years old, raised eyebrows during the season premiere of ABC’s hit reality series Dancing with the Stars on Monday night. Although she is billed as one of the top “celebrities” this season, the ratings were actually down 20% in the adults 18-49 coveted rating from last spring. However, that didn’t stop Alley from surprising the judges during the last dance of the night Monday.
Dancing with the Cha Cha with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy to the hit song “Forget You” by Cee Lo Green, one of the judges asked her if she is “over 40”. Alley, of course, is 20 years older than that, but she surely danced like a woman half her age, not being the age of a grandmother. Another feather in the cap of Alley is that she ranked atop the leader board on night one of competition, garnering 23 points out of 30 from the judges.
Those scores have no where to go but up as historically, the lowest scores are garnered during the initial weeks and then they rise as the competition intensifies and the celebrities really get into the groove of dancing, but for her first night out there, she did a really nice job, and was praised by the judges. She was especially pleased that she picked up a couple of “8’s” from the judges, as she exclaimed during her interview backstage with Brooke Burke.
