Keith Olbermann Fired By MSNBC, Shocks His Viewers

Whether you’re politically conservative or liberal, love him or hate him, I think everyone was shocked when Keith Olbermann ended his show last night with the announcement that this was his last episode. TMZ reports that Keith’s abrupt departure (he still has two years left on his contract) is because Comcast is about to acquire NBC.

According to TMZ: Sources connected with the network tell us … Comcast honchos did not like Keith’s defiance and the way he played in the sandbox. Our sources say Keith has around two years left on his contract, and he’ll be paid his salary — around $7 million a year.

I think it’s pretty clear listening to Keith’s announcement that he doesn’t want to leave his show, but getting $14 million to NOT work isn’t the worst thing to endure.

Friends such as Luke Russert and Shannyn Moore immediately tweeted goodbyes and good lucks to Olbermann. Olbermann’s colleague, Rachel Maddow, also openly talked about Olbermann leaving the network on Friday night’s Real Time w/Bill Maher on HBO (click here to view the clip).
