Monday morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, Britney Spears announced that she would be going on a tour of North America this summer along with Enrique Iglesias. As we mentioned last night, however, Iglesias pulled out at the 11th hour, reportedly because he didn’t want to open for Spears and thought he was more of the main act rather than just an opener.
Yesterday, Iglesias opened up on Twitter to explain his side of the story. He didn’t explain why he pulled out, but posted the following: “Hey guys, sorry for the confusion regarding a possible tour in the summer with Britney Spears. We are on the Euphoria tour and will continue to do so including some soon-to-be-announced dates in US. So hope to see all of you soon”
Iglesias’ spokesperson also opened up about the situation: “Unfortunately, Enrique Iglesias and Britney Spears will not be touring together. Despite initial reports based on formal discussions of the possible run, Enrique will continue on his solo tour in support of his new album EUPHORIA. Enrique has great respect for Britney and is a longtime fan of her work. He is very sorry for the confusion this might have caused to anyone.”
Live Nation, who are responsible for promoting for live tours like the one Spears and Iglesias were slotted to appear in also simply sent out this eight word saying: “Enrique Iglesias is no longer on this tour.”
