Celebrity doctor of Celebrity Rehab, Dr. Drew, recently appeared on HLN’s Joy Behar Show this week, saying that Charlie Sheen should be hospitalized.

“It’s funny to me that people somehow believe that you have to know a patient intimately to understand they have a medical condition,” Dr. Drew said. “It’s really, for me, no different than looking at a rash…It’s somebody who uncharacteristically has a grandiose belief that they have special powers, there’s a torrent of speech, distractablituty, flight of ideas, seemingly endless energy, hyper sexuality…those are all a criteria for a condition called hypomania. It simply defines what hypomania is.”

Dr. Drew also added that Sheen likely isn’t on drugs currently, but the long lasting effects of his drug use in the past may be playing an affect on him currently: “And for my patients that are stimulant addicts that get into a hypomanic state they typically don’t do drugs then. They don’t’ want to do drugs because they feel high all the time.”

Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Police made a surprise appearance at Sheen’s home, where many thought that Sheen was going to be taken into custody thanks in part to California Section 5150 Welfare and Institutions Code be applied to Sheen where he would have to taken in for an involuntary treatment and evaluation. Dr. Drew echoed the statements that this should be applied. However, ultimately, the police did not take Sheen into custody, but were simply there to search his home for weapons.
