The death toll from the Indiana State Fair stage collapse last weekend has risen to six, with the latest victim being a 22-year-old college student. The Ball State University senior, Jennifer Haskell, who was injured from the accident last Saturday as the stage fell during a strong wind gust, died on Friday morning due to head injuries sustained from the incident.

“After a long courageous battle, Jenny Haskell died at 8:15 this morning from her injuries sustained from the tragedy at the State Fair,” a statement by her uncle, Mike Whited, said.

“Jenny’s family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers during this difficult time. Continued support and prayers from the remaining victims would be greatly appreciated,” he added.

The stage collapse incident killed five within the first 24 hours and left dozens injured, several of which are still critically injured.

As for Jenny, she was described by many as being a phenomenal athlete and was part of the school’s basketball and softball teams. Her family said that she planned on being an athletic trainer.

Ball State President Jo Ann Gora issued the following press release shortly after death: “The Ball State community is deeply saddened to learn of Jenny’s passing. Jenny was a dedicated student both in and out of the classroom.”

The incident also killed her best friend, Alina Bigjohny, 23.
