CBS has constantly led amongst total viewers, but because of their older-skewing series, they were never able to capture the coveted adults 18-49 demographic… until now. Last night, thanks to the return of Big Brother, the network was able to beat second place ABC by scoring a 1.9 demo and 6.79 million viewers overall. ABC brought in a 1.7 demo and 5.95 million viewers. FOX was third with a 1.3 demo and 4.25 million viewers. NBC took fourth with a 0.8 demo and 2.15 million while the CW was last with a 0.4 demo and 1.14 million viewers.
CBS aired comedy reruns of The Big Bang Theory (6.7 million, 1.8) and Rules of Engagement (5.19 million, 1.4) to start the night. The premiere of Big Brother then built on the lead-in amongst adults 18-49 by 33%, drawing a 2.7 demo and 7.71 million viewers. That was up 8% amongst adults 18-49 and up 5% amongst viewers from last year’s premiere. The network then aired a rerun of The Mentalist to close primetime, which drew 6.71 million viewers and a 1.3 demo.
ABC took in 6.64 million viewers and a 2.0 demo for an all-new Wipeout, up 5% in the demo and 2% in total viewers compared to last week’s episode (6.5 million, 1.9). Expedition Impossible drew 5.52 million viewers and a 1.6 demo, dropping from last week despite actually having a new episode of Wipeout as a lead-in this week and last week’s lead-in being a rerun. However, it was also against the Big Brother premiere. Expedition Impossible dropped 10% in total viewers and 11% in the demo (last week 6.13 million, 1.8). Rookie Blue rebounded slightly from last week, drawing 5.68 million viewers and a 1.5 demo. That was up 4% in total viewers and 7% in the demo (last week 5.43 million, 1.4).
FOX went with a new So You Think You Can Dance at 8PM, bringing in 5.95 million viewers and a 1.6 demo. The demo was the same as last week, but it had an additional 910,000 viewers this week. The demo is still down 16% from two weeks ago when it drew a 1.9, though. The network aired a Glee re-run out of Dance, only good for 3.12 million and a 0.9 demo.
NBC had a night full of reruns, or broadcasts of a show that could be mistaken for a rerun — Love Bites. Their comedy encores drew as following: Community (2.29 million, 0.7), Parks & Recreation (2.19 million, 0.8), The Office (2.44 million, 1.0), 30 Rock (2.02 million, 0.7). Love Bites only drew 1.97 million and a 0.7 demo at 10PM. Viewership was up 170,000 viewers from last week, but the demo was the same… and still disappointing. The CW aired a rerun of The Vampire Diaries (1.16 million, 0.4) and Nikita (1.12 million, 0.4).
