Popular southern chef Paula Deen says she was “surprised” by some of the things that No Reservations host Anthony Bourdain recently said about her to TV Guide.
“She revels in unholy connections with evil corporations and she’s proud of the fact that her food is f—ing bad for you. If I were on at seven at night and loved by millions of people at every age, I would think twice before telling an already obese nation that it’s OK to eat food that is killing us. Plus, her food sucks.”
Deen initially told FOX’s Fox and Friends on Friday that she was “actually kinda shocked, considering I have never met Anthony. I was really shocked that such harsh words could be used.” She speculated that it may have been some sort of publicity stunt. “I don’t know if it was a publicity thing or if someone had just peed in his bowl of cereal that morning and he was mad,” she said.
But that was just the beginning.
The 55-year-old Bourdain took to his Twitter accounts to bash Deen further. “I love red beans and rice. Do I need it between pancakes,” one tweet read. He also attacked other Food Network stars, such as Rachel Ray, Sandra Lee, and Guy Fieri. On Ray, he said, “does she even cook anymore?” He also noted that he dislikes Lee’s “works on this planet” and that about Fieri, “I’m glad that not’s me”.
The popular Food Network star then did an interview with Page Six of the New York Post.
“You don’t have to like my food, or Rachael [Ray]’s, Sandra [Lee]’s and Guy [Fieri]’s. But it’s another thing to attack our character,” Deen said. “I wake up every morning happy for where I am in life. It’s not all about the cooking, but the fact that I can contribute by using my influence to help people all over the country.”
“In the last two years, my partners and I have fed more than 10 million hungry people by bringing meat to food banks. My good friends Rachael, Guy and Sandra are the most generous charitable folks I know. They give so much of their time and money to help the food-deprived, sick children and abandoned animals. I have no idea what Anthony has done to contribute besides being irritable.”
