Even though his daughter Amy Winehouse died at the age of 27, her father Mitch Winehouse insists that he knows that his daughter died happy when she passed away last Saturday. “Knowing she wasn’t depressed, knowing she passed away, knowing she passed away happy – it makes us all feel better She was the happiest she has been for years,” he said in a statement to People.

A source told People shortly after Winehouse died last Saturday that Mitch told the doctors that Winehouse was told by her doctors that she had to reduce her intake of alcohol and Winehouse decided to go another route by going completely cold turkey. She decided to not drink alcohol three weeks before she died. The family believes that going cold turkey “shocked” the body of Winehouse “after everything she has been through over a bad few years, [and that it] was just too make for her to take.”

Mitch Winehouse insists that Winehouse was on track to have a “fantastic recovery” and talks about the good spirits his daughter was in the night before she died. “She was in her room, playing drums and singing As it was late, her security guard said to keep it quiet, and she did. Amy was the greatest daughter, family member, and friend you could ever have.” At Winehouse’s funeral, her rep summed up the day by saying that it “was everything really”. Winehouse’s father gave his last goodbyes to his daughter and concluded his eulogy by saying, “Goodnight, my angel. Mommy and Daddy love you ever so much.”
